Matthew Perry  was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts

His role as Chandler Bing on the NBC comedy Friends (1994–2004) helped him become well-known.

As a young actor, Perry's first recognized performance was a brief cameo in 240-Robert in 1979. Perry started going to role auditions not long after relocating to Los Angeles.

In 1983, 1985, and 1986, Perry appeared as a guest on Not Necessarily the News, Charles in Charge, and Silver Spoons. He portrayed Chazz Russell in the television series Second Chance (1987–1988), which subsequently became Boys Will Be Boys.

Perry was a citizen of the United States and Canada. He dated Julia Roberts from 1995 to 1996, Lizzy Caplan from 2006 to 2012, and Yasmine Bleeth in 1995. Perry proposed to Molly Hurwitz, a literary manager, in November 2020. Their 2021 engagement came to an end.

For $20 million in 2017, Perry bought a condo on the top floor of The Century in Los Angeles. In 2021, he sold it to Nick Molnar for $21.6 million, then in 2023, Rihanna bought it from Nick Molnar.

Perry claimed in his memoirs that he started drinking when he was 14 years old.

Vicodin became his drug of choice after a jet-ski accident in 1997.

In 2002, Perry stated that even though he had tried not to drink while working on Friends,

he did arrive with extreme hangovers and sometimes would shake or sweat excessively on set.

He was often inebriated or stoned on set during the final seasons of the show. Despite their best efforts, his fellow cast members were unable to assist him, despite putting on an intervention.

In order to obtain additional drugs, he spent $175,000 for a private plane to transport him to Los Angeles. Perry paid an additional $175,000 to board a private plane and return to Switzerland when the local doctors turned him down.
